General Chiropractic Council
The title of ‘chiropractor’ is protected by law and it is a criminal offense for anyone to describe themselves as a chiropractor without being registered with the GCC. Chiropractic regulation in the UK Chiropractic is regulated by The General Chiropractic Council (GCC), an independent statutory body established by The Chiropractors Act (1994).
The GCC sets the standards for undergraduate education, and the standards of chiropractic practice and professional conduct for individuals working as chiropractors. It investigates complaints against chiropractors, taking action against them where necessary. The GCC has the power to remove a chiropractor from the Chiropractic Register if they are found to be unfit to practice.
Royal College of Chiropractors
The College of Chiropractors was incorporated in 1998.
The Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC) were Granted a Royal Charter in 2012. The RCC is a registered charity promoting professional excellence, quality and safety in chiropractic. We are an apolitical professional membership body of over 2800 members. The organisation promotes and supports high standards of education, practice and research, enabling chiropractors to provide, and to be recognised for providing, high quality care for patients.
Chiropractic Associations
There are four representative bodies for chiropractors in the UK: the British Chiropractic Association (BCA), the McTimoney Chiropractic Association (MCA), the Scottish Chiropractic Association (SCA) and the United Chiropractic Association (UCA).
The British Chiropractic Association was founded in 1925 and represents over 50% of UK chiropractors. It is the largest and longest established association for chiropractors in the United Kingdom.
Chiropractic Education
Chiropractic undergraduates train for either 4 or 5 years to gain a GCC-accredited, university-validated MChiro or MSc degree, which enables them to apply to join the Chiropractic Register.
Since the Ango-European Chiropractic College opened its doors to students in 1965, they have been leaders in musculoskeletal healthcare; providing the world with professionals who are enthusiastic, equipped and ready to make a difference.
Not Sure if Chiropractic can help?
Why not book a ‘Free Screening’ with the Clinic Chiropractor. This 15 minutes assessment allows you an opportunity to explain the problem(s) to the chiropractor and get an opinion on whether or not we can help. There is no obligation to book an appointment after the Free Screening.
